Gehenna, Shoel, and Hades pretty much mean the same thing, a place for the dead, burial ground, cremation.
But Gehenna was an actual place, located just outside the gates of Jerusalem, it was a place of perpetual fire, perhaps a surface oil well??, or lava bed, and they burned garbage, as well as bodies, bodies that had no other place to put them, or bodies that none had any respect for.
Gehenna had a horrible history, Children were sacrificed to the god Moloch. so the very ground was cursed from the human sacrifice.
It was the worst sort of 'garbage dump'
